Gynecological Examination

Having a gynecological examination is a vital aspect of women’s health maintenance. Regular checkups enable healthcare providers to identify and address potential health concerns promptly.

A gynecological examination serves multiple important functions. It helps detect health problems early, allowing for timely treatment of conditions like gynecological ailments and sexually transmitted diseases. Early intervention can significantly reduce the risk of serious complications.

Regular gynecological examinations are recommended for all women, even without specific complaints. These evaluations typically include:

Cervical Cancer Screening

A smear test identifies abnormal cells that may develop into cervical cancer. Women aged 25-65 should undergo regular PAP smear testing.

Sexually Transmitted Disease Testing

Screening for infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis is recommended for all sexually active women.

General Reproductive Health Assessment

Comprehensive examinations for women of reproductive age include smear testing, STD screening, and pelvic examination.

The examination may include external and internal assessments to check for infection signs or other gynecological concerns. Testing procedures vary based on individual health history and doctor recommendations.

Post-examination, most women require no additional procedures. However, abnormal findings may necessitate colposcopy, antibiotic treatment for infections, or additional diagnostic testing.

Annual gynaecological check-ups are recommended for all sexually active women. Smear tests are typically every 3 years (or every 5 years with HPV co-testing). More frequent monitoring may be advised based on personal or family history.

A routine examination should not be significantly painful. There may be mild discomfort during the speculum and smear. If you have experienced discomfort previously, please tell us u2014 we adapt the examination to ensure your comfort.

A smear test should ideally not be performed during menstruation as it can affect results. Ultrasound examinations and consultations are routinely performed at any time of the cycle. We can advise on the best timing when you book.

A transvaginal ultrasound uses a small probe gently placed inside the vagina to obtain detailed images of the uterus and ovaries. It provides much higher resolution than abdominal ultrasound for gynaecological assessment and is a routine part of our examinations.
